This past year, on a development call, my team reprimanded me for not embracing my title as a designer. The way that title makes me feel, is the same way I feel when I refer to myself as an artist, which I never do, even though I am very much one. I've always rooted our product development process in collaboration. It is how I prefer to work and it's what brings me so much joy. The stages of developing a product from idea to physical sample with a team of people is very rewarding. Once you reach the point where the product is shipped to stores around the world and discovered like a treasure by it's patrons it feels a bit like you've collectively birthed something together. I love getting messages from family and friends when they stumble upon our products in a store across the country or when they're visiting a new place.
At the end of the day, it's not about me or my ideas, it's about the journey we take together as a team to bring something new into the world. Something that carries a story, transforms a room or brings a little joy into the customer's life. This doesn't resonate for all, but for me and for my team, we all build a home and a life around the objects that we collect and the candles we burn. We all agree on a few principles, a fragrance can transform your mood, the perfect vase can bring nature to life on your dining room table in an unexpected way and finding the perfect color hue can add a dimension to a space that tells a story in a new way. We all love sharing these aspects of life with the ones we love. It's small, it sometimes feels insignificant, but we also remind each other that creativity, sharing beautiful objects, digging your hands into your garden, burning incense as a daily ritual or lighting candles at a table filled with your loved ones are the building blocks for living a meaningful life.
A unanimous decision was made on my behalf that day. I was being promoted, I would no longer be just a Founder, I would also be a Creative Director. I sheepishly agreed and accepted my promotion. I didn't attend design school, my technical design skills are very limited and I had never manufactured a product when I decided to launch The Floral Society. What I did have is a vision and a strong sense of what you can build when you bring together an inspired group of people that have a shared passion for creating and sharing beautiful objects that impact how people experience the little moments of each day.
Since January of 2018, we've launched two collections each year and shared them with this growing community. If we had an unlimited budget we would surely launch products all year long. Our ideas seemingly never slow down and our desire to keep creating can not be tempered no matter the climate. It is quite frankly how we all stay grounded and feel purpose no matter what is happening around us. I heard someone say recently that creativity is our power during times like these. That very much rings true for me and without that outlet, I would undoubtedly feel more lost and less alive.
With that, we are excited to introduce a few of our favorite pieces from this season's launch. Thank you for being here and supporting this small, but mighty team of extraordinary humans.
Warmly,
Sierra
Founder & Creative Director
Our collection fits perfectly into the life of a Sunday Gardener. A new term I just learned that perfectly sums up me as a gardener and I think so many of you.
The hand dipped beeswax collection is growing this season, with two new sizes and two new colors. Both the 6" and the 9" taper candles are an approachable height for candle novices and experts alike and our new Thyme & Mushroom colors are both inspired by my the colors of my garden.
This is the first time we've launched a new fragrance in many years and it's quickly become a studio favorite. The Lavender, Lemon Eucalyptus & Rosemary blend combines all of my favorite smells from my summer garden and transports us to warmer days.
