Dear Winter,
You forced me to slow down, and for that I’m grateful. Really, I am.
I listened while you hid the sun from us and sent cold air swirling around for months and months. I drew baths and cracked open book after book. I lit incense each morning in the dark kitchen as I impatiently waited for my coffee to brew. I wrote in my journal and took note of the stillness this season asks us to explore.
I frequented the sauna to warm my frozen core, and I let go of my to-do list. We built sledding hills in the yard and made hot chocolate for the kiddos.
Thank you for your contributions, Winter—but it’s time to bid you farewell. I know you’re not quite ready to go, but the moment is coming for a new season to breathe fresh life into our days.
The thought of spring is constant this time of year. The way it emerges from the earth again and again, filling us with renewal and possibility. Color. Growth.
I long for the days when I can submerge myself in the garden, where there are always tasks waiting to fill both my time and my soul—watering, weeding, planting, cleaning, trimming. I’m ready to tend to something and watch it grow. To clip flowers and place them on the table. To light incense outdoors and enjoy long meals on the patio.
To sit on the porch late into the evening, listening to the chorus of insects as I devour books and dream about what’s next.
I’m ready for the season where it all feels possible.
Goodbye, Winter.
